“I came here to see the exhibition but I found myself here for over an hour, sitting, watching - it has made me so calm, it’s helped my mental health”
Commissioned by Punch Records, artist Hayley Salter created an immersive photography exhibition, inspired by themes of solar punk and environmentalism. Created in collaboration with sculpture and sound artist Jacob Carter.
Reworlding reimagines the city through a green lens. Constructing a future utopia which centres community, wellbeing, and harmony with nature. The exhibition allows visitors to explore, present and futures of our urban and natural spaces. Combining photography, sound, sculpture and projection, visitors and escape into an unknown landscape and immerse their senses, allowing them to reconnect with the world around us.

Reworlding featured a series of portraits, printed on eco-linen fabric and hanging through the space.
The photo series explores connection to nature, expression and freedom in green space.
Inspired by themes of environmentalism and solar punk, images reflect on the symbiotic relationship between care for nature and our wellbeing - as both individuals and communities. The photos seek to give the viewer a feeling of harmony and calm, providing space for reflection.
Each portrait was a co-creation with that subject, an exploration of their response to the environment. Preserving a moment as they entered a mental space. The series also features a range of locations across Birmingham, highlighting the importance of protecting our commons and shared green space within the city.

Projected videos throughout the exhibition provided a backdrop for a future city imagined by Reworlding. Videos focus on small movements, textures and sensory elements from the outdoors, encouraging the viewer to find stillness and be mindful as they notice small details. These films were projected onto sculptural forms and walls throughout the space, in collaboration with Jacob Carter.
